My glorious, amazing, unbelievably talented friend, Janine Martel, has just launched her site Thumbook.com. The concept started small – literally. She had these really small bound blank paged books and was wondering what to do with them when a stroke of creative genius struck. She would make people, strangers and friends alike, stick their thumbs in ink and then draw a self-portrait with a little message. It sounds crazy but people do these types of things for her all the time. Strangers thought nothing of it, friends were all too happy to help and before she knew it she had 9 books filled with personal messages and thumbprints from New York City to South Africa. She has more peoples thumb prints then most states criminal databases. It’s a really interesting idea and the thumb drawings and people’s messages range from hilarious to inspiring. There are even some pictures of people in action (I love this part!) and you can buy a thumb book and start your own. Spend some time flipping through and enjoy!
